Meet the AssetAlly Development Team

These individuals keep things running smoothly behind the scenes at AssetAlly. Without them, our team would be lost! We’d like for you to get to know them a little bit better, so without further ado, meet the AssetAlly Development Team!

I started programming when I was in 8th grade and immediately fell in love with it!

The best part of my job is the variety of work I get to do, and being able to work on both the front end and back end of our application.

How long have you been on the AssetAlly team?
17 years

Why did you choose to go into this kind of work?
Ironically, because I decided I didn’t want to be an engineer.

What’s the best part of your job?
When clients tell us what we build makes their jobs easier.

What’s one thing you use to do your job that you can’t live without?
My Magic 8 Ball.  Just kidding.  Coffee!

I’m currently obsessed with Lou Malnati’s pizza.

What song is stuck in your head these days?
The intermission theme from Monty Python and the Holy Grail.

Is there anything else we should know about you?

How long have you been on the AssetAlly team?
Six years and counting!

Why did you choose to go into this kind of work?
I’ve generally have an attitude of “choose the people you want to work with first, then choose some interesting work to do”. So I didn’t so much choose GIS as much as found a talented and enthusiastic team who were excited to share their interests and knowledge with a younger me.

What’s the best part of your job?
I really like the mixture of problem solving. Half of the work is solving gnarly technical programming/data/server projects where there’s clearly a right or wrong answer. The other half is more creative and and more reliant on soft skills such as choosing the right problems to solve, or designing interfaces and process which require judgement calls and trade-offs.

What’s one thing you use to do your job that you can’t live without?
A whiteboard for sure – there’s no better way to brainstorm thoughts or work through a problem than visually via whiteboard. With working remotely, I ended up having to get an electronic drawing tablet to scratch that whiteboard itch.

What’s your favorite food right now?
Having helped with IT security training, I’m now a little suspicious you’re trying to get the answers to my banking security questions! But more seriously, burritos. It’s 8 AM as I’m typing this and now I want a breakfast burrito.

What song is stuck in your head these days?
“Suddenly” by BT. The album it’s in “These Hopeful Machines” is a good listen from start to finish and is in my opinion one of the best produced albums of the 2010’s.

How long have you been on the AssetAlly team?
Currently celebrating my one year anniversary!

Why did you choose to go into this kind of work?
I took interest in mapping, GIS, and software development, particularly in its application to drones, back in 2015. I was completing my degree in physics, and I spent a few years with this kind of technology in the entrepreneurial world. Today, these technologies are more ubiquitous and helpful than ever, evolving daily, and makes for an exciting subject of study.

What’s the best part of your job?
The best part of my job is finding solutions to puzzling problems and knowing that my job is making others’ day-to-day easier. I am grateful that it keeps me engaged, and I learn something new every day.

What’s one thing you use to do your job that you can’t live without?
It’s very tough to choose one! I’ll go with my personal favorite: a whiteboard.

What’s your favorite food right now?
My girlfriend makes the best meatloaf, mashed potatoes, and <insert seasonal vegetable>.

What song is stuck in your head these days?
Gyorgy Ligeti – Musica Ricercata: No. 7, Cantabile, molto legato.
